A Fabio Trabocchi restaurant, Sfoglina is truly a dining experience you do not want to miss. With two locations in the District: Van Ness and Downtown, this pasta house will leave you wanting more (we legit couldn’t stop eating). The restaurant gives off casual Italian dining room vibes. We started our meal off with the grilled octopus, which was cooked perfectly and paired with the most delicious sauce. If you’re like us and can’t decide which pasta to order, you’re in luck! Sfoglina offers a pasta tasting of 3 dishes for $68 (full portioned dishes). We had the Spaghetti alla Chitarra (carbonara), Neapolitan Maccheroni (pesto), and the Pappardelle Noodles (lamb ragu). We ended our meal with a slice of the chocolate piemontese cake, think ferrero rocher in a cake. We left our meal so full and satisfied, we can’t wait to go back and try even more that they have to offer!
If you’re looking for a friendly neighborhood spot to get a delicious pie without paying a fortune, 2 Amys is for you. Serving Neapolitan-style pizzas, three of their pies (marinara, margherita, and margherita extra) are D.O.C certified. This certification means that the pies meet the requirements of Italy’s Verace Pizza Napoletana (VPN), an association that protects and promotes Neapolitan pizzas. This place is legit! Want something besides pizza? Check out their suppli, bruschetta, or stuffed pizzas.
Specializing in Indian street-style flavors in a trendy, colorful Cleveland Park space, Indique is our go-to for Thursday night thali. Thali is one of the most delicious and cost-effective ways to sample a variety of Indian dishes. Served on a large circular platter (the thali itself), thali consist of four to five warm and saucy meat, seafood, and veggie dishes alongside rice and various Indian breads (rotis). In Indian tradition, a proper meal should be balanced, which is why we suggest ordering a cocktail to go along with your thali plate! Indique’s cocktails feature Indian spices (think: garam masala, cardamom, and tamarind) which pairs well with their fun and unique spin on authentic Indian cuisine.
